The project ‘Swimming Camp Inclusivo NESC'

ToSwim Inclusive supports the project Swimming Camp Inclusivo NESC.

Swimming Camp Inclusivo NESC

Project partner: Arena Nuoto Extremo Swim Camp (N.E.S.C.) is a theoretical and practical internship dedicated to swimming that began in 2014, led by Olympic athletes, during which all technical aspects of the four styles, starts, turns and diving are covered. Camps are organized to combine training and recreation in a fun and worthwhile way for kids ages 7 and up.

During these days we follow the boys, assisting them both in and out of the water in order to pass on to them the knowledge and values that have served to take small and great satisfaction from us during our successful careers. The boys are divided into groups according to level so that we can work with everyone to the best of our ability. Specific meetings are scheduled during the camps, where numerous topics aimed at sports wellness and improvement are covered; from types of training to nutrition; passing through the management of the emotional sphere in the pre- and post-competition phases. Numerous leisure moments are also planned: our motto is socializing, learning and having fun.

Since 2022 we have also started to promote inclusive days also between Paralympic athletes having physical disabilities and able-bodied athletes, where we teach them the secrets of swimming and in particular competitive swimming techniques, adapting these techniques to the residual abilities of our Paralympic athletes children, teens and adults.
The new project supported by ToSwim Inclusive and “NESC” plans to start the third Paralympic camp at the Villaggio Orizzonte pool in Piombino.

The project ‘Swimming Camp Inclusivo NESC'

People with disabilities often have reduced mobility and are able to express themselves much better in water than in the terrestrial environment, precisely because of the properties of water, which, for example, offers 784 times more density than air. This higher density on the one hand implies the possibility of having both vertical and horizontal sustenance, which, combined in some cases with floating objects, such as belts or ankle straps, help the person to recalibrate coordination skills and grant superior support to the terrestrial environment, making in some cases autonomous, a person who is not autonomous in the terrestrial environment. In addition, precisely because of the hydrostatic pressure, water has a massaging effect, so even just immersing the body in water stimulates the limbs and body toward new functions. Therefore, the importance of swimming also goes far beyond teaching the 4 styles and can extend to improving one’s self-esteem, as well as to the everyday life of the person with disabilities, especially if such activities are carried out in an inclusive environment whenever possible.

Project Goals

The primary goal of the project is to offer people with disabilities one or more days in the aquatic environment, providing them with water spaces in which they can, on a subdivision basis with respect to their level of swimming and disability, work from movement in the water to the pursuit of competitive detail.

The project 'Swimming Camp Inclusivo NESC' will fund:

  • Several days of camp and group lessons.
  • Every 100 euro donation pays for a full-day experience for a child, all inclusive.
