The project ‘Laboratorio Subacqueo Inclusivo Diverse Ability'

ToSwim Inclusive supports the project Laboratorio Subacqueo Inclusivo Diverse Ability

The Pool of Moncalieri is an official

Laboratorio Subacqueo Inclusivo Diverse Ability

In November 2022, the Association organized the first diving course entirely dedicated to people with disabilities (11 students enrolled including 4 with motor disabilities, 1 with sensory disabilities, and 6 with cognitive disabilities) followed individually by a staff of 12 instructors, 6 in-water assistants, and numerous surface assistants. The course concluded in June 2023 with a sea outing in Bergeggi (SV).

The new project supported by ToSwim Inclusive and the “Orsi Polari” plans to start the third edition of the Workshop at the brand new Moncalieri Swimming Pool, with the same numbers as the previous one, and ending in June with the sea outing.

The project ‘Laboratorio Subacqueo Inclusivo'

Diving with pool training, since it takes place in water with almost total absence of gravity, has shown numerous advantages in the physical rehabilitation of people with disabilities. The normal obstacles and restrictions caused by disability on land, disappear in water giving the opportunity to experience extraordinary emotions and sensations. But not only that because regular participation in recreational activities involving ‘exercise is rewarded with better health, both physical and mental. Swimming and diving, besides being a ‘physical activity, is a social sport and as such has an enormous positive effect on the students, their ability to interact with others (assistants and instructors and their fellow divers).

Project Goals

The primary goal of the project is the creation, in the territory of Turin and its province, of a space in which diving courses entirely dedicated to and composed of students with physical, intellectual and sensory disabilities can be carried out on a stable and continuous basis over time.

We believe that inclusion is realized primarily by overcoming social, mental and physical barriers, and by creating realities that include everyone and give everyone the same opportunities.

We invite you to explore Diverse Ability’s YouTube channel where to see, in detail, the activities that have already been implemented.

The project Laboratorio Subacqueo Inclusivo Diverse Ability will fund:

  • 10 lessons.
  • 10 students (in two hours of water).
  • 10/15 instructors and assistants in the water.
  • Contribution: 150/200 euros per student (including equipment).
